Mural: Two Elephants and the Kingfisher's Lotus Blossom

The Two Elephants and the Kingfisher's Lotus Blossom is a 47' long x 15' tall mural which was designed by Wendy Jane Bantam while working with refugees in the City of Lincoln. Commissioned by Urban Development and Neighborworks Lincoln to beautify and revitalize a site vandalized by graffiti, Bantam worked with students with the Asian Caucus of Lincoln High School, and elders in the community. She listened to the community's stories of homeland and what it meant to them to make Lincoln, Nebraska their new home -- from these stories, creating a mural for the site.

Bantam, an Artist in the Schools and Communities with the Nebraska Arts Council, worked with volunteers in the community, teaching them to paint large scale. Murals and beautification projects naturally combat graffiti by giving neighborhoods a venue to tell their story and a sense of ownership and pride in their community.

The mural was dedicated to the City of Lincoln when it was completed.
