Joseph M. Ruffo is an independent Lincoln, Nebraska artist. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Pratt Institute and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Cranbrook Academy of Art. He was a Fulbright Scholar to Brazil in 1963.

He has taught and been an administrator at several colleges and universities since 1965. At the University of Nnebraska-Lincoln, Ruffo was Chairman and professor of art and Director of the Eisentrager Howard Gallery for 19 years.

Ruffo's artwork has been shown throughout the United States in various juried and invitational exhibitions. His work has been exhibited in the Detroit Institute of Arts; the Brooks Memorial Art Gallery of the City of Memphis; the Museum of Modern Art in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil; the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery, Museum of Nebraska Art and the Modern Arts Midwest gallery in Lincoln.

Currently his studio work is in abstract, archival, paper constructions on board, painting and drawing on paper as well as one of a kind, signed sterling silver pendants. Ruffo also consults as a graphic designer for several local and national clients. His work is represented by Modern Arts Midwest Gallery in Lincoln, Nebraska
