Her passion for paper sculpture and wearable paper couture has led to a permanent piece at National Museum of Dance in New York and intensive collaborations with California-based Ballet Zaida.
The hotel will host Battelle Van Hook on the property in a gallery space open to the public for the Cornhusker Artist-in-Residence program. During her year of residency, Battelle Van Hook will spend 30 hours weekly in an on-site studio, creating pieces, organzing weekly gallery classes, hosting First Friday Artwalks and networking with guests to create a truly enriching experience for all.
A legacy piece will be created during her year of residency to permanently be on display within the hotel. Her piece will be displayed next to the piece created by the first Artist In Residence, Margaret Berry.
The Artist-in-Residence program was created by Marcus Hotels & Resorts in 2009 at The Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee, Wis. The program encourages the public and guests to interact with a local artist, enriching the overall guest experience during their visit as they are able to connect with the artist and see the evolution of the pieces created. The excellent guest response to the program at The Pfister led to expanding the program to other company-owned properties, including the Skirvin Hilton Hotel in Oklahoma City, OK.
