About Dr. Hillestad
Robert Hillestad is a textiles artist and design educator. He works collaboratively with educational institutions and civic groups throughout the country to promote textiles as a medium of artistic expression. He curates and juries exhibitions, gives lectures, conducts workshops, and serves as a consultant. He exhibits his artwork in gallery situations and shows his garment and accessory designs in performances on stage and runways. Dr. Hillestad has participated in more than 150 juried and invitational shows throughout the United States and abroad. His artwork is included in numerous corporate, private and museum collections. Images of his artwork appear in more than 60 print and electronic publications. He is the recipient of numerous awards including The Governor's Arts Award in 2008 and his first Mayor’s Arts Award in 1996. He is a Fellow in both the International Textile and Apparel Association and The Costume Society of America. Upon retiring from a 31-year career at the University of Nebraska in 1996, he was awarded the rank of Professor Emeritus.
