Kimmel Foundation Award - Visual
Villarreal was born in Austin, TX. He will complete the MFA program at the University of Nebraska- Lincoln in May 2017. Villarreal's current work explores household items through memory — developed from personal narratives from his childhood. At the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts, he will create a broader dialog by expanding the idea of the window blinds into an into a body of work of its own. The idea of creating the window blinds began from associations towards the household object from then on. The window blinds began to develop anthropomorphic features, or an animated sensibly which activated a psychology within the work.
