About Richard

Richard Nielsen has acted in nearly fifty local theatre productions over the past several years. He has performed for the Nebraska Repertory Theatre, the Lincoln Community Playhouse, the Haymarket Theatre, the Crooked Codpiece Company and OmniArts Nebraska. Since 2002, he has played a variety of characters in twenty-five Flatwater Shakespeare Company productions, including Caliban in The Tempest, the Welsh captain Fluellen in Henry V, the Fool in King Lear, the title role of Julius Caesar, Malvolio in Twelfth Night, Polonius in Hamlet, Antonio in The Merchant of Venice, and his favorite role, Roy Cohn in Tony Kushner’s Angels in America, Parts One and Two. Other recent roles have been in productions of Edward Albee’s Seascape, and David Mamet’s Glengarry Glen Ross. He earned a Ph.D. in English from UNL and teaches English at Southeast Community College.
