Indigo Gives America the Blues
Posted by: Lincoln Arts Council
Indigo dye dramatically influenced the appearance of European and American textiles throughout the past 400 years. Its use reflects the history of trade with India and other Asian countries beginning in the sixteenth century, as well as advances in technology in Europe and North America.
This exhibition will be on display at the International Quilt Study Center & Museum from September 7, 2012 to June 2, 2013.
The quilt shown above, IQSC 1997.007.0423, is a Center Diamond pattern, circa 1890-1910, probably made in Pennsylvania.
