Medici Returns To "Grassroots" For Unl Art and Art History Fundraiser
Posted by: Lincoln Arts Council
MEDICI will mark its 15th year of raising funds for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Art and Art History Department with its annual fundraising event on Saturday Feb. 26th from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery inside Richards Hall, (T Street and Stadium Drive).
A friends group in support of the department, MEDICI has raised over $100,000 for the department to use to bring visiting artists and scholars to campus, to fund catalogs and purchase large-format digital printers, digital cameras, kilns, an etching press, a steel lithography rack and other equipment.
Each year artists supportive of the department are invited to donate a piece that will be purchased at the event by MEDICI supporters. This year's donors include: Deon Bahr, Wendy Bantam, Anne Burkholder, Roger Carlisle, Jan Christensen, Eddie Dominguez, Marcia Goldenstein, Aaron Holz, Martha Horvay, Keith Jacobshagen, Tim Klunder, Karen Kunc, Anne Martin, Doug Martin, Richard Moses, Christina Narwic, Ernie Ochsner, Susan Puelz, Amy Smith, Francisco Souto and Bart Vargas.
"UNL has the only graduate art program in the state," said Ed Forde, UNL Art and Art History Department chair. "In order to support a demanding, comprehensive program, we must stay abreast of technology. We have to provide the state-of-the-art equipment that high-caliber students need."
MEDICI event attendees realize that extra monetary support is especially important to support the development and growth of students in today's ever-increasing technological advances in art practices and teaching needs.
Thank-you and we hope you can join us for a fun night of drinks, nibbles, art and socializing.
