Art makes me who I am by helping me to see the world in a new way. I am indebted to Kenneth Clark for the insight that art is at least as much about truth, as it is about beauty. So I have returned to my childhood love (movies) with an approach that is more disciplined and appreciative in a wider way. I agree with Andrew Greeley (with whom I have corresponded) that movies were “the art form of the 20th century.” Thankfully, that is still spilling over into the 21st, enriching other art forms in the process.
