Thanks to our Art Makes Me SmART underwriters, we placed two artist residencies at Prescott Elementary School this spring. Jazz Vocalist, Jackie Allen shared her passion for music with 5th graders. Visual Artist, Kate Marx, will be creating with Kindergarten, First and Second Graders. Mobilizing the talented teaching artists in Lincoln to lend their expertise to art specialists in limited-resource schools creates a win-win situation for all concerned. Watching students interact with Jackie as she led them through exercises in writing their own blues song and improvising scat/sung conversations was amazing. Watching their teachers join in the learning was absolutely inspiring. Facilitating artist residencies fulfills every aspect of our mission of championing the arts, connecting people, changing lives. Thanks to our Arts Education Intern, Alyssa Aden and to our organizational underwriters: The Dillon Foundation, The Pearl Francis Finnegan Foundation, Lincoln Rotary Club #14 and Holiday Craftacular.
