Business: Desert Snow Designs
From: Albert Lea, MN
I was a weaver of textiles for many years and I also have a degree in Textiles from the University of Minnesota. My creative focus evolved to jewelry making fifteen years ago. I bring my life experiences to my designs, which is a sensibility that has grown through living in Europe, and traveling to India, Africa, and South America. I want people to connect with my jewelry just as I connect with the raw materials through the processes of coiling, twisting, bending, and encasing different elements with wire. As a single wire adjusts itself, it reminds us of life's interconnectedness.
I fashion my art out of a plethora of materials such as crystals, semiprecious stones, multicolored wire, sterling silver, copper, lampwork glass, and anodized aluminum. I coil, bend, twist, flatten, and form wire; along with hammering, texturing, and sawing silver. My designs typically begin by manipulating small, diverse materials that blend together to create a bigger, poignant expression.
