Joe Ruffo

Legacy of the Arts Award

Joe Ruffo is an independent Lincoln artist. He received a BFA from Pratt Institute and an MFA degree from Cranbrook Academy of Art.  He was a Fulbright Scholar to Brazil in 1963. He has taught and been an arts administrator at several colleges and universities. At UNL, Ruffo was Chairman of the UNL Department of Art and Art History for 19 years. In keeping with his interest in curriculum development Ruffo led the faculty to develop major improvements to the BFA and MFA degree programs which in part led to achievement of national accreditation. Joe has served as President of the Lincoln Arts Council, is a member of the Public Arts Lincoln board, and is a member of the Board of Advisors of the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts. He has served on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.
