St. Elizabeth Foundation & Anna Alcalde

Lincoln Community Foundation Arts for Kids Award

Honors an individual or organization from outside of the arts professions whose leadership has enhanced arts activities and experiences for children.

About the project

Donna Hammack is the Chief Development Officer for CHI Health St. Elizabeth and Nebraska Heart Foundation. The Foundation has as its purpose promoting caregiving at St. Elizabeth and Nebraska Heart and helping to support programs to help the community. She truly enjoys working with the many individuals who make a difference and can help facilitate change.

The Foundation has been instrumental in seeking funding through a CHI Mission and Ministry Grant, which has allowed a partnership between Lincoln Public Schools and the Foundation to further promote the Second Step Program in the school system. The curriculum boosts students’ social-emotional skills with lessons on recognizing bullying, disagreeing respectfully, being assertive, using calming-down strategies, controlling anger and considering others perspectives.

What makes the Foundation’s role unique in this program is that art activities, provided in an afterschool setting and orchestrated by artist Anna Alcalde reinforce the curriculum taught during the school day. Anna Alcalde has been involved in many community art projects and awards, including Best of Show at two Tabitha art events, Friends of Pioneer Park Rain Barrels, Cat House Fundraiser, numerous projects for Saint John’s Church and as an artist, teacher and speaker for Nebraska Girl Scouts ArtVenture. Anna is proud to have coached many award winning Junior high private art students also. She has been on the board of Lux Art Center, Hildegard Center for the Arts, and St John’s Catholic- Home School Board.
