Artist created Art Boards at last year's Mayor's Arts Awards. This year the boards are inspired by the work of Vincent van Gogh.

Art Boards at the Awards

Back by popular demand, local artists are creating original Art Boards as part of the Mayor's Arts Awards celebration. In keeping with the evening, the boards will be van Gogh inspired. We're making it extra fun this year -- the boards will be on display during the event and attendees can bid on them in a silent auction to benefit the LAC. There will be as many as 30 pieces this year, from a wide range of artists. Watch for more details on Facebook as we reveal some of the boards. Lincoln has such talented artists ... the boards are outstanding and we are excited for you to see them!

Mayor's Arts Awards Sponsors

Champions of the Arts

It takes Champions of the Arts to fulfill our mission. Producing the Mayor's Arts awards each year helps the Lincoln Arts Council to partially underwrite significant and important arts programming like upstArt, helping to grow our artist-in-residency program focused especially on under-resourced students in Title 1 Schools and other at-risk youth populations. Our sponsors help LAC continue to realize our work for a stronger, better, more inclusive arts community. Please join us in thanking our Mayor's Arts Awards Sponsors. And, join us May 9th at Pinnacle Bank Arena for the 41st Annual Mayor's Arts Awards.

Bob Reeker working with students at Elliott Elementary

A Conversation with Art Teacher Bob Reeker

Bob Reeker has been an art teacher for nearly three decades, and has won countless teaching awards. He’s the art teacher at Elliott Elementary, where the Lincoln Arts Council funded a residency with teaching-artist Christian Scott this past fall. We sat down with Bob and asked him a few questions.

The Asian Cultural Center kicks in the

Lunar New Year

LAC awards grants to qualifying arts non-profits to support their efforts to develop new audiences, facilitate under-served groups and increase arts access for all. One of the winners this year was to the Asian Cultural Center for their Lunar New Year Festival.

The colorful festival was on February 25 in the Lincoln Room in the Lancaster Event Center. There was free Asian cuisine, cultural activities, art performances, games, music, and health screenings. Despite a raging blizzard a large and enthusiastic crowd enjoyed the festivities.
