Incarcerated: Art as Protest
Pathfinder students use art to give voice to their struggles
For the past three years Emmy Award winning artist and teacher Nancy Konrardy has been working with students in the Lancaster County Detention Center through a partnership between LAC and LPS. Students study art technique and explore the ways that art can serve as an emotional outlet.
For example, during one session this fall the students considered how to express their feelings in a way that is powerful yet not alienating to the person they’re trying to convince. They discussed protest posters, such as this piece by Corita Kent, as tools of persuasion.
